Now Through July 12th, Thomas Jefferson's Signature on Display!

In honor of Independence Day, Thomas Jefferson's signature is now on display in the Main Hall at the Taste of Texas, through July 12th.  We are thrilled to share this remarkable and rare letter from the author of the Declaration of Independence to his friend, Georgia Governor John Milledge.

In the letter, Jefferson asks Milledge for recommendations for four Georgians to make up a Commission for Congress.  Governor Milledge had served in the Revolutionary War, famously seizing British gunpowder.  As governor, Milledge advocated for educational advancements, and even co-founded the University of Georgia.

The postscript bears Jefferson's well-known scrawl, and it's moving to see the same handwriting that drafted the powerful and immortal words of our Declaration of Independence up close.

Happy Independence Day!
